Daniela (Dani) Ho Tan (she/her)

Clinical Psychologist, Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist (Individual), Board Approved Supervisor, PhD Candidate

Dani is a Vietnamese-Australian Clinical Psychologist and Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist based in Sydney. As a proud member of the Asian diaspora and a self-identified third culture kid, she brings a deeply personal understanding of cultural identity to her therapeutic work. Her lived experience—being born in Germany to Vietnamese parents who migrated to Australia—has shaped her commitment to integrating culture into clinical practice in meaningful and authentic ways.

Dani has presented widely on the intersection of culture and therapy, including for the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST), the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi), the Asian Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA), the University of Sydney, the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP), and other community-based mental health events.

She was the first Vietnamese psychologist to complete Advanced Schema Accreditation, and her work is deeply informed by the privilege of working with a diverse client base—many of whom are of Asian heritage—and recognising the need to make culturally responsive adaptations to Schema Therapy without compromising its core integrity. She also draws on the cultural humility framework and power threat meaning framework.

Project HoriZen began as a personal passion project and has since grown into a platform offering culturally responsive trainings, clinical supervision, coaching, retreats and research online, Australia-wide and internationally. It was born from Dani’s desire to create spaces where culture is not an afterthought, but a core part of the conversation in mental health practice.

Outside of her work, Dani runs her private practice Mindwealth Psychology and enjoys travelling, chasing after her two energetic boys, sweating it out at Strong Pilates, indulging in Korean dramas, and exploring new places to eat.
